Well, a great three weeks, non-stop on the Fragments project. Plenty of learning about social media along the way. The works we have on the project are superb. And we set up a fan page on Facebook for people who want to see, comment and keep track of the project. It was of course pleasing to get 7 sales in the first two hours because we haven’t really begun a news push at all yet. One next step is to introduce This Is Not A Brand as the conceptual umbrella but it all takes a little time.
So what is Fragments? Real art for Euro 40, $62 or £ 32 but also an oportunity to look at the essence of an artist’s work or if you are an artist an oportunity to communicate something essenetial to a wider audience.
To get it up and running I went to different artists and asked would they be prepared to create new works at this price, specifically new work drawing on existing work, but work that would be very accesible in price to people who might not normally buy art.
The answer to date has been a resounding yes, very positive. It offers artists a chance to reach a wider audience and it offers viewers a chance to become collectors, to refurb the house or office at a really low cost, or to engage with an artistic thought process possibly for the first time. I know there are artists who already want to subvert this currently tidy proposition and all to the good.
Fragments is on its way already to becoming a global project with involvement from Ireland, New York, San Francisco and Mexico.
We do have plenty more plans for the gallery and not just for Fragments but I’m too tired to think about them right now. Please join us on the site or the Facebook page!
