Ankari Holder and Emilia Badaracco

There are doubters of course but regularly Second Life brings additional interest into my day.
Emilia Badaracco is a great jazz singer and also goes by the name of Ankari Holder. She played at the Ten Cubed launch back in January.
What is it about these chance virtual meeetings that make them extra special? I mean special given we are not actually meeting the people we talk to. Emilia is from Uruguay, a place I know nothing about. And she lives in Mexico City where she’s trying to make it as a singer and pay her way through music school ( I also know nothing about Mexico City but at least I now know somebody who can tell me about it and transmit some of the thrill and tedium of being in one of the world’s largest cities in an under-developed economy).
This is what she told me recently about her music:
“i know there are musicians out here looking to sell their cds mainly, and i hope it does work out for them.. but in my case, i get a lot out of smaller things here (in SL). having people from different parts of the world like my music and say it to me makes me feel like i’m not mistaken in believing in what i do no matter what the mexican music scene tells me (here it’s all about who you know, not about what you do). and i’m even getting better at the whole “playing live” thing because of doing it so much in SL :). which is great for me because i used to be very shy in front of rl audiences and now i’ve gotten much better at it :)”
That’s a pretty good recommendation for Second Life. I see a lot of criticism of it lately but by and large my experiences are now positive.
The odd aspect of Emilia’s work is she doesn’t sell CDs nor sheet music. She’s up there/out there to perform. She’s a great singer so if you want the chance to hear her. The name is Ankari Holder.
