And New Old Media Opportunities Are a Booming

“Portfolio will be exhaustively reported, literary and slick-–a business magazine for people who don’t like to read business magazines.” That’s from the American Journalism Review talking about Conde Nast’s new business magazine Portfolio. I think there’s much more scope - a magazine that embraces people who are changing their lifestyles (which includes many of us), a magazine that goes in search of the new (a web search for the print industry), one that looks at redefining relationships, one on good porn.

Beats me why all the focus is on the web, in fact. Yes, yes. it’s cheaper to produce a website but it’s also depressing knowing precisely how few people visit it and having to mess with the numbers to justify your ad sales and prices. There’s also incredible value in being on newstands, in doctors’ surgeries, hotel lobbies, airport lounges etc. Portfolio will be in all of them building a brand like only the physical world can.
