Here Come Ole Flat Top

Why does John Lennon accompany every tribulation in my life? I love the old flat top line. He come grooving up slowly. He one holy roller. He got hair down to his knees. They don’t write them like that any more. In fact my oldest son still at home was telling me a day or so back that System of a Down have a set of lyrics based around a tape worm. It didn’t sound as engaging as the Walrus.

Goodbye nostalgia. Not enough people are buying the Irish Times on a Monday when my regular convergence culture series appears. This week it looks at how games affect the television programmes we watch, next week on the impact of amoral technology. I’d love to start some debate here about the articles. Maybe I’ll post the odd one or two here as well. Tuesday there’s one on extreme personalisation - how people are looking for a role in products well beyond contributing opionion.
In Scotland there’s a company that lets you join, I guess a bit like the first joint stock companies, and become a decision maker in… its whiskey production. I can’t wait for these ideas to hit Irish shores.
What’s that got to do with John lennon? Obviously ideas work two ways. Governments poach popular sentiments for the language that allows them to appear like natural leaders. John Lennon somehow managed to poach all my ideas and I guess those of millions of other people. It was uncanny how easy it was to identify with him - millionaire, rock star, genius, innovator, lyricist, icon.
