My Diet Friends Offer

I have a couple of ideas for promoting My Diet Friends that I’m playing around with. We just negotiated a deal with Body and Soul Experience,a diet related holiday provider for a discount for My Diet Friends readers. The details are on mydietfriends.com.
My Diet Friends is actually a group blog put together with the same software that Daily Kos uses. To date we haven’t been inundated with people wanting to blog about the food industry, food security or simply diet but that’s on the longer term horizon.
In the meantime I wonder if there is a way to host a weekly competition to find good Friday and Saturday dinner recipes that are healthy, great tasting but also take into account some element of future food security? It might be of interest to the greater community of Irish food bloggers anywhere in the world and closer to home.
Why food security? In Ireland food costs are going up, despite the increase in competition in food retailing. In Mexico, Venezuela and in India recently there have been street protests against rising food prices. We may not realise it yet but there is a food crisis that will become more intense as biofuels take over more of the land and as the fishing stocks are further depleted.
The very things we need, fresh food, local food, fish not meat, will be in shorter supply. Food security - eating in a way that is nutritious, healthy, and pleasing is something we take for granted but it is under threat already.
We want to host a series of posts that reflects an awareness of that combined with good culinary standards. As prizes we have a few giveaways of John Masters organic cosmetics - shampoos and face creams that usually cost around Euro 40 a tube or pot.
But first things first - anybody who can help frame the competition, or series, in a way we adopt we’re happy to make the first prize winner.
