5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

Donncha tagged me here to do the five things. Five things you don’t know about me. He doesn’t say they have to be interesting things.
I have five kids but only one daughter and she’s an unbelievable influence in my life. All men who have only sons should keep trying. Actually it was my wife who wanted to and she too is delighted with the contribution little Angharad makes to our lives.
I aim to use some of 2007 to start writing about age. 51 is coming up on the near horizon and I think we’re now in the paradoxical position of living longer but facing greater disease threats and restricted opportunities. So I’m going to use part of 2007’s writing output to complain about the downside and extol the virtues of being able to be fit to eighty.
For five decades I hated the sun and the heat. Now I need it so I’ll also be running away from Ireland more often.
But on the other hand I’ve just taken on a one acre garden. I’ve decided the best route to fitness is work rather than exercise.
A big part of me lives for my chidlren’s future. I have one who acts with the Gaiety’s Youth Theatre Project in Cork and I’ll be cheering him on in 2007, one who is great on the guitar, another whol wants to play the drums, Angharad of course and another son who wants to be a stand-up comedian. I’m amazed how children can see their futures in such creative terms. They don’t know yet but they’ll be keeping me in a luxurious old age, so I wish them every success.
And the best of luck to everybody else this coming year. Here are five people who also might be tempted into revealnig five thigns: Conor, Keith, Roos, mathew, and the ideadudes.
