Among all the web 2.0 betas this one stands out because it provides real benefits to more than one user. I don’t just mean it builds community, it may save community.

The service is offering by Green Mountain Energy, a US company that provides clean energy and helps corporate clients reduce their carbon footprints. Now they’ve gone a step further to enable individuals to estimate their carbon use and to offset it.

Ecological news is pouring in from all lover the web: All UK homes to be carbon neutral by 2016, Asian countries wrecked by ethanol related crop growing, California doing more to promote ecological regulation…. about 20 stories a day pass across my screen. It all adds up to confusion so good to see a Web 2.0 solution to one part of the problem. An information service that gave us better qualified news stories would also help.
