Lunch over IP is not a blog I see quoted much in the cyber circles I frequent but this Swiss writer, Bruno Giussani, is a fund of information on novel industrial practices as well as about writing.
He blogged recently about the Oscar project - an attempt to extend open source principles to the car.

We’re going to see more and more of it of course and the great interest that might lie between the nooks and crannies of large design projects is what it says about the changing nature of democracy. While we’re many of us through with politicians, we’re many of us getting involved in projects that will change the world in practical ways. From farmers taking on small biofuel projects (debate needed here - I covered it on wripe recently) to folks designing cars, social priorities are surely at least competing with industrial/commercial.
It’s a worry that detail is replacing democracy but let’s let the imagination run a bit. The new socialist international is the new auto-design team?
