MySpace, FIlm Council and Channel 4

MySpace is generally about music but that doesn’t mean it can’t also be about film - and now it’s owners have a strong UK presence that’s what it’s trying to do.
The upstart social network is in talks with the continuously, perpetually upstart UK TV channel, Channel 4, and together they’re asking the UK film council to pitch in funds for MySpace members (and anybody can be one) to get the chance to produce quality and edgy clip mania movies for the burgeoning social network’s channels.
It means MySpace is very definitely moving into YouTube territory with C4 in tow.
It means as well that we have TV channels who see part of their future in the social network space but didn’t act fast enough to build Platform presence so have to talk now with a main rival, News Corps.
Interesting times lie ahead, especially as it seems the Venice Project will also feature “quality” video, though not user generated. Venice has a line up of name directors and producers..
