The Great Sketch Experiment

Interesting to see Hollywood directors heading for the web and the latest is John Landis, in this report from techcrunch.

In the case of the Great Sketch Experiment, sponsored by Verizon, Landis’ presence is embarassing. Sketch comedy has a noble past and a lousy one. They’re great and they’re awful. Here the sketches are not that good, nor are they staged with the right level of production values: neither good nor absent, so you wonder what a Hollywood director is doing in there.

The back scene stuff with Landis wasn’t streaming properly when I watched it but probably just as well. The web’s a great place for talent to grow but I think Landis is a monkey on the back of these acts. Far better if they’d been directed by new talent with an eye and ear for what works here.
