New Blog Name - URL Still The Same

I decided last evening to change the name of this blog - though as yet I can’t see how to change the URL without losing every reader.

The change represents me knowing better what I’m talking about - though you could argue with that.

I mean I started the blog to try to understand how the media industry is changing - from the point of view of me trying to make a living, but I find I really want to understand it more from the point of view of a consumer - what will I see next on my screen.

It means a more critical approach to indvidiual new content projects, hopefully more emphasis on reviews and a critical line on what’s emerging culturally, by which I mean how are ideas changing? We’ll see how it goes. I hope it clarifies what the blog is about.

I’ll be honest and tell you that I always read it as Media Langer! But shur outside of Cork and Gift Grub fans, no-one else should make the same mistake.

You could just get a new URL and re-direct the old one to it. I used to do that a lot in the past.

I think Feedburner may be very useful there too. The RSS feed from them stays the same for everyone but goes to the new URL under the hood.

Media langer! That’s what I should have called it. I’ll just check if the domain name is still free.

Huh! I always thought it was Medial Anger, some kind of weird phrase meaning “I’m cross, but only a bit.”

Best way to introduce the new url is to
    (a) run the new url with identical content side-by-side for a week or two, with a big link in the old site saying “use this new url!”
    (b) then after that, introduce a forwarding page in the old url (a META REDIRECT kind of thing) that moves people on to the new url
    (c) finally, mothball the old url and freeze the content and put a last message at the top saying “hey everyone, the party’s now at [insert new url here]
