A Blogger Service to Professionalise the Profession

Performancing.com is a blog community designed to professionalise blogs. Here’s what they say and in the recent tradition of starting arguments I will say after what I find wrong with it - though I also find things right.
“Performancing.com is a group weblog written by professional bloggers, for professional bloggers. The emphasis at performancing is commercial blogging.”
OK. But with blogs I am not sure what professional means - though I don’t want to be too holy about that.
Professional blogging probably has more to do with carving out a set of standards for attribution, opinion and use of evidence than cashing in.
As for the commercial element…. we need to discuss all that don’t we? The people behind performance have tried to begin a debate but got here:
“To create a home for professional bloggers. A place where those that want to make money from their blogs can learn, and perfect the art of making a living from weblogging.”
I don’t want to argue with that either but those who are making a living from it don’t universally impress me as sources of wisdom or original or diverse opinion. Perhaps the best you can say is it’s all in the melting pot which actually is no bad thing. Much of what went before was set in concrete.
