BBC’s Online Strategy

Also from Paid Content today is news that the BBC’s online strategy is up for review at the Ofcom regulator in the UK.
“Services up for approval include seven-day catch-up TV online and by cable, web/TV simulcasts and non-time limited audio downloads online. The iPlayer audio and video player (name TBD, I understand) will be deployed through BBC Online as a uniform platform for all those services, replacing various existing players.”
Hmm. I think there’s some mix up in the UK. The BBC is funded through a television license fee so how come it is allowed to spend nearly 1 billion Euro a year (as of next year) on online services?
Rather than being a regulatory issue it should be a legal one.
