Protopage - More European Web 2.0

Protopage is a start page application which at first glance lacks the elegance of Pageflake and the buzz around netvibes. The one implementation of protopage I’ve seen is the Irish Web 2.0 portal.

This is what the protopage guys have to say about it.

# Use it to catch up with news from hundreds of sources (including the BBC, CNN, Reuters, New York Times, London Times, CNET, ESPN, …)
# Put color coded sticky notes, todo lists and reminders on it
# Keep your frequently accessed bookmarks on it
# Name it (e.g. as www.protopage.com/yourname)
# Share parts of your page with friends, or keep it private
# Use it to share photos
# Set it as your browser ’start page’ for easy access

Start pages have worked for my site traffic but then I’ve only been monitoring netvibes. Protopage is as good a product as any out there but for my money could do with a decent interface designer (I could say the same about netvibes though, who are flying despite sporting an interface that keeps you guessing).

Thanks for the link to the web 2 portal. I must admit I haven’t kept up to date with the list of web 2 projects, so there probably are alot more then I have mentioned, but I do find protopage very useful. Not great on the looks side but functionality is all I require.
I don’t know if you are aware, but there is an Irish Bar Camp due to take place in Cork on 30th Sept. Not totally aimed at Web 2, but it will feature prominently I guess.
Nice to see a blog like this with a European perspective on new media and web 2.0.
