EU Gears Up For the Big Spend

The EU has a number of ways of funding IPTV developments. The main method though is its R&D programmes. At the back end of last year they held a couple of workshops in Brussels to discuss the upcoming research issues created by the arrival of massively interactive audio-visual networks. These workshops have morphed into a new workshop on how to spend EU Euro millions in the audio-visual sector from 2007 onwards.

My main complaint with EU programmes and EU funded research is the pace. By the time they get these programmes up and running competitive companies can get products and services to market. Two cases in point are citizen media and audio-visual search, areas where the EU will spend hundreds of millions in the next four years but which are already hot in the market.

If you can reconcile your business model with the habits of a bureaucracy then these workshops are for you. At the very least they are worth the networking opportunity.
